Valley of the Guadalentín River

Defense towers, castles, remains of walls, small palaces and mansions all reflect the long history of this valley. Furthermore, from this valley we can gain access to the Regional Park of Sierra Espuña, the largest natural expanse in the Region of Murcia, and enjoy an extensive range of activities that bring us into contact with nature.

The Valley of Ricote

Also known as the Valle Morrisco “Moorish Valley”, due to the fact that this was the last redoubt of the Moors in Spain, the River Segura has made this a lush and almost unknown corner of Murcia, creating a fertile landscape of fruit and palm trees. Any visit to the valley must start at the Visitors Centre in Archena, a good starting-point for discovering the area and enjoying a form of tourism based on active tourism and rural and health pursuits.

Cartagena

The city whose name was given to it by “those from Carthage”, according to Miguel de Cervantes, is the second largest in the region.

Surrounded by five hills on whose slopes the city gradual expanded, Cartagena is a city in whose history the sea has always played a mayor role. Read more about Cartagena.

The Mar Menor is an extensive coastal lagoon measuring some 170 square kilometres. Consisting of warm salt waters, this lagoon was originally a bay that opened out to the Mediterranean, but is now separated from the sea by a narrow bank of sand some 24 kilometres long known as La Manga, a curious whim of nature that presents extensive beaches washed by the sea on both sides. Due to the excellent climate in the area this is an ideal spot for pursuing all kinds of Water-sports throughout the year.

This coastal area bordering the Mediterranean is characterized by its mining past and maritime tradition. Historically, it was a key strategic location for the defence of the neighbouring lands, featuring a number of important castles and defence towers.
